Hundreds Run for Clean Air in 2007 Earth Day 5K5K runner results If you have trouble viewing any of the documents above, download Adobe Reader. More than 500 runners participated in the Mothers for Clean Air Earth Day 5K on April 21, 2007 , topping last year's turnout and exceeding the goal. The weather was foggy but not too hot, and the shady streets of Bellaire once again provided a beautiful backdrop. The races kicked off with the 1K Kids Race, which drew nearly 100 participants. The first ten boys and first ten girls to cross the finish line received medals. All runners received free wristbands. Next up was the 5K, with just over 300 runners. Coming in first in the Women's Open was Jennifer Romown, and first in the Women's Masters was Hade Mairs. John Butler was first in the Men's Open, and Steven King was first in the Men's Masters. This year's event also featured teams for the first time, and the group from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality got top honors for the biggest team and best time. The races wrapped up with the 3K Walk, which included nearly 100 walkers. Then, everyone headed to nearby Russ Pitman Park for the post-race party. Channel 13's Jessica Willey presided over the awards ceremony and the prize drawings. Many of the race sponsors were on hand to provide information or refreshments. The event raised nearly $10,000 for Mothers for Clean Air. Volunteers and Committee MembersThe Mothers for Clean Air Earth Day 5K was the work of almost 50 volunteers.
