Earth Day 5K has a New Start at MacGregor Park

The third annual Mothers for Clean Air Earth Day 5K is set for Saturday, April 19, 2008 at MacGregor Park near the University of Houston. The new route will begin on South MacGregor, return on North MacGregor and finish on the shady trail in the park. In addition to the chip-timed 5K, there will be a 5K walk and 1K Kids’ Run to round out the event.

The 2008 event will have twice as many age divisions as previous years, doubling the number of awards. The overall male and female runners in the Open (under 40) and Masters (40+) will receive special awards. Last year’s winners won running shoes from Luke’s Locker.

A partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department has made this new location possible. MacGregor Park has recently been renovated and boasts many large oak trees that provide shade for numerous picnic tables and playgrounds. It is a perfect setting to recognize Earth Day.

The post-race party is shaping up to be a memorable event. There will be displays by an assortment of environmentally-minded businesses and groups, and fun clean air themed children’s activities.  The Houstonian Hotel and Spa has donated an overnight package to the prize drawing and more great prizes are on the way.
