Provides resources for students interested in air pollution and air quality monitoring. This site is a good research tool for student projects.

Air Now!

Air Quality Index and information about air pollution from the EPA website. Links to daily ozone level updates from around the country and provides ideas for community action.

EPA Explorers' Club

EPA Explorers' Club for kids includes information concerning pollution (including ozone and air pollution) presented for kids 5-12. Information for kids about global warming can be found at http://www.epa.gov/region01/steward/cchange/enved.html

EPA Region 1 website that lists other sites about Global Climate Change and environmental education.

ee-Link is a project of NAAEE and provides links to many environmental education resources on the internet as well as limited classroom resources.

United Nations Environment Programme

The United Nations Environment Programme website contains useful air quality and pollution information under the Atmosphere, Lithosphere, Pollution, and Transportation sections.

American Lung Association

The American Lung Association website contains information about diseases caused by air pollution and ways to reduce exposure to polluted air. This site also links to Indoor Air Quality enrichment materials for classrooms.

This site is Argonne National Laboratory's list of Science Fair websites that will help students develop a project idea and the research methods to complete it.

NASA Earth Observation

NASA Earth Observation website contains information and modeling technology for ozone, cloud cover, UV radiation, and other atmospheric conditions. Could be very useful for student projects.

Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment

The Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment website is a good resource for defining terms and issues relating to air quality at both technical and non-technical understanding levels.

Climate Change Calculator

The Climate Change Calculator is an interactive software tool designed to raise people's awareness of the greenhouse gasses they produce through their daily activities. Originally designed for Canadian locations, it also covers some American states. Requires Shockwave Flash.

The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention website provides information about health concerns and diseases, including those caused by air pollution.

"The WhyFiles" is a website supported by the University of Wisconsin-Madison that examines scientific aspects of news stories and important events. Uses the Science Benchmarks and the National Science Education Standards.

Environmental Defense Fund

"Global Warming is Happening" is a website by the Environmental Defense Fund that provides well ordered arguments trying to raise awareness about global warming. It is a touch one-sided, but would be a good research site for student projects.

Environmental Quality-Pima County, AZ

Pima County, AZ website for environmental quality and air issues, including educational opportunities and enrichment resources. Provides a less urban viewpoint than most sites.

North American Association for Environmental Education

North American Association for Environmental Education website contains guidelines for evaluating curricula and resources and teaching environmental education in both formal and informal settings. Downloadable publications include Guidelines for Initial Preparation of Environmental Educators and Excellence in Environmental Education: Guidelines for Learning (K-12).

State and Territorial Air Pollution Program Administrators

State and Territorial Air Pollution Program Administrators (STAPPA) website that contains good references and links, including a list of government resources for clean air education and advocacy opportunities.  

National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration

This site is the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Education Center collection of resources for educators and students concerning weather, climate change, and oceanographic issues. There are helpful links for both educators and students under the Climate Change and Our Planet section. Also related is http://www.noaa.gov        

Department of Energy Education Center

      Department of Energy (DOE) website that lists opportunities for educators and students as well as providing background information on both environmental and policy aspects of air quality issues. Also shows how to apply for grants for lab equipment, classroom funding, and teacher workshops.

The Union of Concerned Scientists

The Union of Concerned Scientists website provides information and ideas about activism and community participation, including actions that students can take.
